Gainesville FL freshman Tamari Davis equaled the meet record in the girls 100-meter dash prelims Thursday at the Pepsi Florida Relays, clocking a personal-best 11.29 seconds at Percy Beard Track.

Davis matched the 2011 mark by former Lake Wales FL standout Octavious Freeman, who went on to be an All-American at Central Florida and placed second in the 100 at the 2013 USATF Outdoor Championships.

Davis is also closing in on the national freshman class record of 11.24 set in 1995 by Angela Williams of Chino CA. The final is scheduled for Friday.

American Heritage FL senior Anthony Schwartz ran a wind-legal 10.18 in the boys 100 prelims, just off his own meet record of 10.15 last year.

Wakefield NC senior Veronica Fraley, the national leader in the discus throw, prevailed with a 166-11 (50.87m) effort.

Fraley produced the country’s top throw this season with a 171-10 (52.39m) mark Saturday at the Wake County Championships.

Hallandale FL junior Destiny Castillo won the girls long jump with a leap of 19-9 (6.02m). Hilton Head SC junior Sam Gilman secured victory in the boys 3,200 in 9:11.05.

Mississippi State junior Anderson Peters, the collegiate leader in the men’s javelin, won with a second-round throw of 267-7 (81.57m). Peters, representing Grenada, remains the No. 4 performer in the world this year with a 268-10 (81.95m) from March 23 at the Mississippi State Bulldog Relays.

American Robin Reynolds prevailed in the women’s 400 meters in 52.38, with former Florida star and first-year professional Kyra Jefferson second in 53.58.

Alonzo Russell, a member of multiple Bahamian 4x400 relays that have medaled at the Olympics and IAAF World Championships, won the men’s 400 in 45.44. American triple jump record holder Christian Taylor finished second in 45.48.

Former St. Augustine’s star and Nike athlete Shawn Rowe, representing Jamaica, won the men’s 400 hurdles in 49.17, edging Bahamian standout Jeffery Gibson, competing for Empire Athletics, in 49.21.

McNeese State senior Nathan Jones won the men’s 5,000 in 14:02.59, holding off Charleston Southern freshman Fearghal Curtin in 14:02.88.
