Auburn graduate student-athlete Kylee Carter, the 2019 NACAC U-23 gold medalist and NCAA Division 1 runner-up in the women's javelin throw, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss returning to competition for her final year and winning the Pepsi Florida Relays on April 2 with a mark of 188-3 (57.38m), trailing only her program record 188-6 (57.45m) from the 2019 Florida State Relays. Carter, the 2019 Southeastern Conference champion, now boasts three of the top five throws in Auburn history and two of the top 75 all-time collegiate marks. She expresses her appreciation for being able to wear the Auburn kit and being able to travel again to meets, including April 8-10 at the Tennessee Relays, after not competing in the javelin since the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Carter shares her optimism for the improvement at both the Florida State Relays and Florida Relays, and the belief that she is prepared for a breakthrough performance in the weeks ahead. She revisits competing at the Florida State Relays against Georgia senior Marie-Therese Obst and her respect for the Norwegian athlete producing the best collegiate mark since 2016 with a 201-foot performance (61.28m). Carter examines the depth of the women's and men's javelin in the SEC, and how the competition will be an important dress rehearsal for the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. She also analyzes the women's javelin depth nationally, with Wake Forest freshman Alexandra Roberts and Brigham Young junior Ashton Riner joining Obst and Carter among the top 25 competitors in Division 1 history. Carter emphasizes her excitement to compete multiple times at Hayward Field this year, including the Olympic Trials in June, after placing 10th at the 2018 Division 1 championship meet. She also speaks about achieving her Master's Degree in Exercise Science and what that achievement means when she will conclude her academic schedule at the end of April, allowing her to focus only on athletic competition at the conference and regional meets in May. Carter also provides an update on her ReKycled clothing, which she began making with teammates in the past year.
